Cara Lorrimer brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her role as an Art Therapist. With more than 18 years dedicated to working with children and young people, she has honed her skills as a Play and Development Specialist. Her clinical expertise extends to working with youth up to the age of 18, offering them a chance to grow and find solace through creative expression.

Cara's practice is available for individual and group sessions, adaptable to private practice settings, online media as well as schools and community environments. As a seasoned therapist and counsellor with a focus on the arts and play, Cara has developed her practice in diverse environments, collaborating closely with parents, educators, and other professionals.

Her commitment to nurturing young minds is evident in her passion for creating a secure and therapeutic space conducive to personal growth and well-being. Cara is a registered member of the B.A.C.P, holding a degree in Child Education and Development along with a post-graduate qualification in Child Counselling Using the Arts. She maintains an up-to-date DBS check and adheres to the B.A.C.P code of ethics and safeguarding policies relevant to each setting she works in.

 

Cara's approach is characterized by her calm, understanding, and non-judgmental demeanour, blended with empathy and playfulness. This unique combination allows her clients to feel secure and understood within the therapeutic relationship, providing them the freedom to express themselves and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Her aim is to foster a trusting bond with her clients, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for exploration.

 

Her integrative approach to therapy incorporates various theories and techniques, underpinned by a humanistic and holistic perspective, deeply rooted in psychodynamic theory. Cara's practice is compassion-focused and draws inspiration from attachment-based psychotherapy, ensuring a well-rounded and effective therapeutic experience for her clients.
